Ursinus College grows out of Freeland Seminary
1869
Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pennsylvania
Abraham Hunsicker founded Freeland Seminary on the Perkiomen in 1848. John H. A. Bomberger founded Ursinus College in 1868 and it bought the seminary campus the following year, taking its name from a sixteenth century German reformed theologian. The town, which had gone by Freeland and by Perkiomen Bridge, ended up called Collegeville. The college holds about 1,500 undergraduates on 170 acres.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
