Tommy John surgery is invented in Inglewood
1974
Inglewood, California
In September 1974 Frank Jobe took a spare tendon out of Tommy John's right wrist and threaded it through drilled holes in his left elbow to replace a torn ligament. Nobody had rebuilt that ligament before and Jobe told the pitcher the odds were about one in a hundred. John pitched fourteen more seasons. The operation carries his name and is now performed on thousands of pitchers a year, many of them teenagers.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
