The Ypsilanti Water Tower on the highest ground in town
1890

William R. Coats designed this stone tower for a city waterworks scheme begun in 1889, and it went up on the highest point in Ypsilanti in 1890 for $21,435.63. Its shape and its position mean residents still give directions by it rather than by street names. A bust of Demetrios Ypsilantis, the Greek independence fighter the city was renamed for, stands at its base between a Greek and an American flag.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
