The WWVA Jamboree
1933
Capitol Theatre, Wheeling, West Virginia
The second oldest live radio barn dance in America after the Opry, broadcast from Wheeling on a fifty thousand watt clear channel signal that reached the Canadian Maritimes at night and made country music a northern taste as well as a southern one. Performers played Nashville on Saturday and drove here for Sunday. It has moved venues and changed names but has never entirely stopped.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
