The Floyd Country Store jamboree
1983
Floyd, Virginia
A general store that sells work boots on Friday afternoon and clears its floor at six thirty for the oldest continuous jamboree of its kind, gospel first, then string bands, then flatfoot dancers wearing out the boards. No drinking, no dressing up, and the sidewalk outside fills with players who could not get in. It anchors the Crooked Road, Virginia's music trail through the mountains.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
