One of the four New Yorkers who signed the Declaration lived on this plantation on the Great South Bay, worked by enslaved people whose quarters stood on the grounds. The British occupied it through the war in reprisal. Eight generations of Floyds kept the house almost unchanged before giving it to the public, which is why it still reads as what it was.
