The Ling is a Balao class fleet submarine commissioned in June 1945, right at the end of the war she was built for. She was towed up the Hackensack in January 1973 to be the centrepiece of the New Jersey Naval Museum, and a generation of school groups climbed through her. The museum closed after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. In August 2018 vandals cut the locks, opened the hatches and let in fourteen feet of water, and she has sat aground in the mud ever since, rusting and closed to the public.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
