A sand and gravel permit issued in 1982 turned into the Deepwood dump, where tyres, shingles, wrecked cars, asbestos and acid containers piled up next to Pleasant Grove for close to 25 years. Neighbours sued, and a 2003 settlement required the city to haul out more than two million cubic yards of waste and build a nature centre on the cleared ground. It opened in 2008, and the site is now roughly 120 acres of restored habitat inside the Great Trinity Forest.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
