The town Dickens and Twain both used

Dickens came down the Ohio in 1842, found a mud flat being sold to English investors as a coming metropolis, and put it in Martin Chuzzlewit as Eden, the paradise that turns out to be a swamp where the agent has left. Forty years later Twain made the same town the whole plan of his novel: Huck and Jim are running for Cairo to sell the raft and buy passage up the free river, they pass it in the fog without knowing, and everything after that happens because they missed it.
