The Talbot Avenue bridge, Lyttonsville's link across the colour line
1918
Lyttonsville, Silver Spring, Maryland

Lyttonsville was founded before the Civil War by a free Black laborer, and for decades the bridge over the B and O tracks was its only direct link to a Silver Spring where Black residents could work but not live. The 1918 span carried that traffic until Purple Line construction took it out. A third bridge opened on the site in 2024 and carries the Capital Crescent Trail.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
