Voters turned down a domed stadium three times before approving a bond in 1980, and the arena opened in April 1983 as the largest wooden dome by volume anywhere. Its 152 foot roof is framed in triangles of glued laminated timber rather than steel, using more than a million and a half board feet of Weyerhaeuser lumber. It has held indoor soccer, minor league hockey, state high school basketball finals and a long run of arena concerts.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
