Alpine Arena, where Pittsburgh high school hockey started
1967
Swissvale, Pennsylvania
The Alpine began as an outdoor rink and got a roof in 1967, becoming one of the few sheets of ice in the eastern suburbs. High school and college teams played here and touring rock bands used it between games. The Western Pennsylvania High School Hockey League was organised out of this building in 1971. The ice lasted only until 1975, when the owners tore it out and put in tennis courts, and the building is still standing.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
