The Spanish Steps, a staircase copied from Rome and used as a fire escape
1916
Tacoma, Washington

Tacoma built these stairs in 1916 to get pedestrians down the bluff between Broadway and Commerce Street, modelled on the Piazza di Spagna in Rome. They also served as the fire escape for the Elks Temple next door. The lodge building is a McMenamins hotel now and the steps carry a cafe patio partway down.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
