The Aurora Elks Lodge, a Mayan Revival clubhouse on Stolp Island
1926

The Elks built this lodge in 1926 in Mayan Revival, a style that had a brief vogue in the 1920s once excavation reports from Mexico and Guatemala reached American newspapers and architects started borrowing the stepped stone motifs. Very few Mayan Revival buildings were put up in the Midwest and fewer are still standing. It sits on Stolp Island within a short walk of the Paramount and the Leland Tower, all three from the same decade of Aurora money.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
