Jasper Deeter took over an old mill building in the Rose Valley arts colony and opened it as a theatre in 1923 with a production of Shaw's Candida. For decades it was described as the only genuine professional repertory company in the United States, keeping a resident troupe and a rotating bill rather than running one show at a time. The building contributes to the Rose Valley Historic District.
