The salt mine under Lake Erie runs four miles out from Whiskey Island

The shaft on Whiskey Island drops roughly 1,800 feet through limestone, and the workings then spread sideways under a lake that is only about fifty feet deep overhead. The main tunnel reaches some four miles offshore and the mine covers around sixteen square miles of rock. It opened in 1962 and its road salt is still what keeps northern Ohio moving in winter.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
