The peninsula took its present shape in 1827, when crews dug a new mouth for the Cuyahoga, and the Irish labourers who did that work settled on the ground they had made. A distillery put up in the 1830s gave the place its name, though it is not an island and has not produced whiskey in a very long time. In 1911 the Pennsylvania Railroad finished an ore dock here fitted with four Hulett unloaders, the biggest ore dock on the lakes at the time.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
