The Red Stockings turn professional
1869
Lincoln Park Grounds, Cincinnati, Ohio
Cincinnati openly paid every man on the roster, the first fully professional baseball club, then went 57-0 on a tour by rail and steamboat that took them to San Francisco. Home was the Union Grounds in Lincoln Park, eight fenced acres the club took over from a cricket club and played on from 1867 to 1870. Cincinnati Union Terminal was built across the site in the 1930s, and a greenway through its car park is the last trace of the park. The Reds still get the first home opener of every season by tradition.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
