The Northern Pacific picked Tacoma over Seattle for its Puget Sound terminus in 1873, and this is the grade its trains came down to reach the water. Freight kept running on it into the 2000s. The city pulled the rails through downtown and opened the corridor as a mile of walking trail in 2019, leaving a stretch of track in place and hanging public art along it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
