Isaac Ellwood, who made his fortune in barbed wire, built this pink Pompeiian style house in 1900 as a winter place he barely used. It passed to James Hopkins of the Diamond Match Company, who in 1903 sold it to George Craig, and Craig paid with a ten percent stake in the Texas Company. Craig got a house. The stock he handed over became Texaco. The Port Arthur Historical Society keeps the villa and shows it by appointment.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
