The Pollock-Capps House, one of three left on Quality Hill

Bankers, cattlemen, lawyers and publishers built Victorian houses along the bluff over the Clear Fork of the Trinity, and the street picked up the name Quality Hill. This red brick and limestone one with the octagonal corner tower went up in 1898 for a homeopathic physician, Joseph Pollock, and sold in 1910 to the lawyer William Capps, who added a golf course, a tennis court and a ballroom over the garage. All but three of the Quality Hill houses have been demolished.
