The Perkiomen Bridge, paid for in part by lottery
1799
Perkiomen Bridge, Collegeville, Pennsylvania

The six arch stone bridge over Perkiomen Creek was built in 1798 and 1799 to carry the main road between Philadelphia and Reading, and a lottery raised twenty thousand dollars toward the cost. Its longest span reaches 76 feet and the whole crossing runs over 300 feet, with decorative piers and belt courses unusual for a bridge of that age. It was widened in 1928 and is among the oldest stone arch bridges in the country still carrying traffic.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
