The Pasadena Playhouse becomes the state theatre of California

Gilmor Brown founded the company in 1917 and Elmer Grey designed the Spanish Colonial Revival theatre that opened on El Molino Avenue in 1925. Its school became a well known route into the film business for actors, directors and writers. The legislature named it the official state theatre of California in 1937.
