The southern half of this district was part of the Ouilmette Reservation, land the federal government granted in 1829 to Archange Ouilmette, a woman of Potawatomi descent married to the French trader Antoine Ouilmette, as a condition of the second Treaty of Prairie du Chien. The reservation was sold off to developers and became the original village of Wilmette in 1872. The district now takes in 911 contributing buildings, all of them houses except two churches.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
