Oberlin Village, the freedmen's town Raleigh grew around
1866
Raleigh, North Carolina
Trevor Peters · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A freedmen's village of some 750 people who bought their own lots and built a school and churches within a decade of emancipation. Most of it has been absorbed by development. A handful of houses and the cemetery survive.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
