The oldest Dutch stone house in New York City
1709
Vander Ende-Onderdonk House, Ridgewood
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
The fieldstone farmhouse went up in 1709 on land farmed by Dutch settlers, and it is the oldest Dutch Colonial stone house standing in the city. It survived as farmland long after the neighbourhoods filled in around it, burned in 1975, and was restored as a museum. Arbitration Rock sits on the grounds: the boulder surveyors used in 1769 to end a century of argument over where Kings County ended and Queens began, buried for decades under Onderdonk Avenue and dug up in 2001.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
