The Garretson family took this land in 1719 and put up the sandstone house the year after, when Bergen County was Dutch farming country and Paterson did not exist. It is one of the oldest surviving sites in the county, and the family held it for generations. The house went on the National Register in 1974 and the farm is open as a museum.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
