The Oakland Museum of California puts art, history and nature under one roof
1969

Oakland folded its separate art, history and natural science collections into one institution and opened it in 1969 in a terraced concrete building whose roofs are planted as public gardens. The holdings run past 1.8 million objects and are organised around the state itself rather than split by department, so a Gold Rush pistol and a Bay Area figurative painting can sit in the same argument. It is the only museum of its kind devoted entirely to California.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
