The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art

An American collector who worked under the name Jacques Marchais built a stone version of a Himalayan monastery on this hillside, terraced gardens and lotus pond included, to hold what she had gathered. It was the first building in the country put up in Himalayan style and the first museum anywhere devoted to Tibetan art. The Dalai Lama visited in 1991 and vouched for it.
