The Oakland Army Base ships 8.5 million tons of cargo
1941
West Oakland, California
The Army started building on the Oakland waterfront in 1941 as a sub port of the San Francisco Port of Embarkation, and renamed the place the Oakland Army Base in 1944. More than 8.5 million tons of cargo went out through it during the Second World War, and it kept moving millions of tons more through Korea and Vietnam. It was closed under base realignment in the 1990s and the land returned to port and city use.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
