The Eagles played in the Ironbound at Ruppert Stadium, a park they shared with the white minor league Bears, and in 1946 they took the Negro World Series off the Kansas City Monarchs in seven games. Game seven was here on 29 September in front of 7,500 people: Monte Irvin singled in the first, Larry Doby walked and scored the go ahead run in the sixth, and Newark won it 3 to 2.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
