Highlands, New Jersey

Two brownstone towers on the highest headland on the eastern seaboard, the first American light fitted with a Fresnel lens, the great glass beehive that threw a beam twenty miles out. Marconi built a wireless station beside them in 1899 to report the America's Cup races by radio to newspapers on shore, one of the first practical uses of the thing in the country.
