Her husband was one of at least eleven people killed by mobs over a week in Brooks and Lowndes counties. She said publicly that he had done nothing and that she would seek warrants, and a mob took her to this river crossing and killed her and the child she was carrying. She was twenty-one and eight months pregnant. No one was tried. The account of it drove the anti-lynching campaign of the next decade.
