Lynching of Jesse Washington
May 15, 1916
Waco City Hall, Texas
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A crowd of roughly 10,000 watched the torture and burning of a Black teenager outside City Hall on May 15, 1916. Photographs sold as postcards. The NAACP's publication of them made the Waco Horror central to the national anti-lynching campaign.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
