The Los Angeles Zoo replaces the ruins up the hill

The city opened this 133 acre zoo in Griffith Park in 1966 and closed the old zoo about two miles away, whose concrete grottoes were left standing and are still walked through today. Los Angeles owns the land, the buildings and the animals. Botanical gardens were folded into the name later.
