The Ku Klux Klan buys Lanier University and tries to run a college
1921
Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia
Charles Lewis Fowler, a Baptist minister, founded Lanier in 1917 and named it for Sidney Lanier. Building costs sank it, and in 1921 the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan took ownership, installing Imperial Wizard William J. Simmons as president and a grandson of Nathan Bedford Forrest as business manager, with a curriculum they advertised as 100 percent Americanism. Fewer than 25 students turned up to register. Bankruptcy proceedings began in August 1922 and the Klan college was finished.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
