The Kirby vacuum is designed in a west side machine shop and sold on doorsteps
1919
Cleveland, Ohio
Jim Kirby worked out of the Scott and Fetzer shop on Cleveland's west side, and the hand cranked Vacuette suction sweeper he designed went on sale in 1919. More than two million were sold over the next eleven years. The Kirby name went on the machines in 1935 and the company still sells them the way it always has, by demonstration in the customer's own front room.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
