The Idle Hour, a bar shaped like a whiskey barrel
1941
Los Angeles, California
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Michael Connolly, a technician at Universal, bought this lot and had George Fordyk build him a two storey redwood whiskey barrel in 1941. The cafe and tap room filled the ground floor and an apartment sat in the head of the barrel. It is one of the last pieces of programmatic architecture left in Los Angeles and was made a Historic-Cultural Monument in 2010.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
