The Wich Stand and cruising on Slauson
1958
View Park-Windsor Hills, California
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Armet and Davis built this coffee shop in 1958 with a tilting blue roof and a 35 foot neon spire shaped like a dart. Drivers came from the Valley, Pasadena and the South Bay to circle the lot, and the Beach Boys, who grew up a few miles south, wrote an unreleased song about it. The building still stands at Slauson and Overhill as a health food store, one of the best preserved pieces of Googie architecture left in the county.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
