The Hamilton House, a Dutch sandstone farmhouse in Clifton
1817
971 Valley Road, Clifton, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
John and Anna Vreeland built this gambrel roofed sandstone house around the time of their marriage in 1817, in the style Dutch families had been using in the Passaic valley for a century. A dairy farmer named Henry Hamilton bought it in 1856 and his name stuck to it. When demolition threatened in 1973 the whole building was moved about a thousand feet across Valley Road, and Clifton now runs it as a museum.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
