The Granite Railway hauls the Bunker Hill Monument out of Quincy
1826
Quincy, Massachusetts
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Horses pulled loaded cars down three miles of track from the Quincy ledges to a wharf on the Neponset River, where boats carried the stone to Charlestown for the Bunker Hill Monument. Chartered in 1826, it is the line usually called the first commercial railroad in the country, because it never shut down before becoming a common carrier. The quarries it served kept cutting until 1963.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
