The Glendale Sanitarium opens in a failed hotel a year before the city exists

Seventh-day Adventists opened the Glendale Sanitarium in 1905 inside the Glendale Hotel, a 75 room Victorian building on what is now Broadway that had not worked as a resort. Glendale did not incorporate until the following year, which makes the hospital older than the city around it. It later moved to Wilson Terrace and grew into Adventist Health Glendale, and it remains one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in town.
