Hialeah Hospital started with a pastor's five thousand dollar down payment
1951
Hialeah, Florida
Elder W. O. Reynolds of the Miami Temple church put 5,000 dollars down on a block of Hialeah land and carried a 45,000 dollar mortgage on the rest, and Seventh-day Adventist physicians opened a hospital on it in 1951. It grew to 378 beds and became one of the largest private hospitals in the state. In 2024 it was one of the Florida hospitals caught in the Steward Health Care bankruptcy, and a second operator stepped in to keep the doors open.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
