The Gerald Desmond Bridge, torn down because the ships got taller
1968

A through arch bridge built between 1965 and 1968 to carry Ocean Boulevard over the Back Channel to Terminal Island, named for a former city attorney. By the 2010s container ships had outgrown the clearance beneath it, so a taller cable stayed span called the Long Beach International Gateway replaced it in October 2020. Demolition finished in 2023.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
