The George Westinghouse Bridge and its 460 foot concrete arch
1932
East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Lincoln Highway crosses the Turtle Creek valley here on five open spandrel concrete arches, 1,598 feet end to end, with the deck 240 feet above the valley floor. The central span of 460 feet was for a time the longest concrete arch in the world. It cost 1.75 million dollars, and the design engineers were Vernon R. Covell and George S. Richardson with architectural work by Stanley Roush.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
