The floodwall that saved Cape Girardeau
1964
Water Street, Cape Girardeau
After the 1927 and 1943 floods the Corps of Engineers walled the town off from the Mississippi with 1.2 miles of concrete and gates that close in high water. The river side was later painted with a 1,100-foot history of the region, which is what most visitors come for.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
