The first concrete grain elevator in the world

Frank Peavey and Charles Haglin put up this cylinder between 1899 and 1900 purely to prove the design would hold, because wooden elevators kept catching fire and blowing up. It held, cylindrical concrete became the industry standard across the country, and the tower itself never stored grain again. Nordic Ware has kept it on its factory grounds since the late 1960s, painted with the company name.
