The Eldon Avenue axle plant and the wildcat that shut all of Chrysler
1969
Eldon Avenue, Detroit
This was the only plant in the company making parts for every Chrysler car, which gave the workers inside it more leverage than they were paid for. Its Black majority workforce founded the Eldon Avenue Revolutionary Union Movement in November 1968, a sibling of the DRUM group at Dodge Main, and struck without union sanction on 27 January 1969. Three quarters of the plant walked and production stopped for the day. Chrysler fired 26 of them.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
