Dodge Main, and the electric truck plant standing on its footprint
1911
Hamtramck, Michigan
The Dodge brothers opened this plant in 1911 and it ran for most of a century, employing tens of thousands and drawing the Polish migration that built Hamtramck around it. Demand fell away in the 1970s, closure was announced in 1979, and the buildings came down. General Motors put an assembly plant on the cleared ground, and the same site now builds the electric Hummer, Silverado EV and Escalade IQ under the name Factory Zero.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
