The Eells house and the Underground Railroad at Quincy
1842
Quincy, Illinois
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Doctor Richard Eells was convicted and fined four hundred dollars for helping a man named Charley who had swum the Mississippi from Missouri. He appealed as far as the Supreme Court and lost, and his house is one of the few documented Underground Railroad stations in Illinois still standing, a hundred yards from the river bluff.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
